How To Break Ideas Overwhelm.

2nd March 2015 by VParmar 2 Comments

Fearful

Ever had that experience when you have a spine tingling idea or decide to make a change in your life which gets the hairs on the back of your neck standing up?

You feel all inspired, fired up and full of excitement. It’s a great feeling, right?

But then things start to change…

You start to imagine all the things you need to do to get your idea off the ground or to implement the change you want and the list seems endless.

That little voice in your head starts to talk you down by convincing you that “You don’t have time” or “You don’t have the money” or the classic “You don’t have enough know how’

Very quickly you find yourself experiencing overwhelm and that once brilliant idea soon ends up filed away in the memory banks never to be spoken of  again.

Any of this sound familiar?

I’ll be honest, overwhelm has got the better of me on a number of occasions too. I’ve got books full of ‘million dollar ideas’ which never made it past the starting line.

How do you get out of this feeling of overwhelm so you can start making progress on these ideas?

Here are 3 quick mindset hacks to help you to get out of ideas overwhelm and into progress fast.

1. It’s better to start at the top of the mountain.

Which is easier ? Looking down from the top of a mountain and asking “How did I get here?” or looking up the distant summit and asking “How will get there?”

It’s the first one, right?

It’s easier to trace your steps back to where you started from than to plot your course forward. In your mind, create a vivid picture of you having successfully put your idea into place and then ask yourself “What actions did I take to get me here?”

2. You don’t have to get it right first time.

When you have a new idea it’s unrealistic to think you will get everything right at the first time of asking. That kind of pressure will only serve to paralyse your progress, instead think about your idea as an iterative process. Develop a concept first and then test it out. With each test take the learnings and refine what you have until your idea feels like it is working the way want.

3. It’s not always about big steps, it’s about knowing the right steps.

You often hear speakers and coaches say you have to take massive action. I get the sentiment and I even use the phrase myself but the quality of action is also important. Look for someone who has successfully done what you want to do and check out what steps they took, then use it as a template to build your approach on.

Applying these changes to your mindset will help you to keep our early enthusiasm and develop a way forward meaning that more of your ideas will see the light of day!

Love Is The Killer App.

19th January 2015 by VParmar 1 Comment

De La Salle High School in Concord California has long been recognised within the USA for its extraordinary football tradition. The team held the national record of a 151- game winning streak spanning from 1992 to 2004, more than doubling the previous record of 72.

But that’s not the extraordinary bit.

The extraordinary bit is what lies behind all the records, trophies and championships.

What Coach Bob Ladouceu created was a team of leaders who each believed that the most important man on the team was the one standing next to them. He fostered a culture,  a brotherhood which focused these young men on the “we” not the “me”

He puts the success of his teams down to one simple killer ingredient.

Love.

Yes, that’s right love.

You are probably not a football coach, so what does all of this have to do with you?

Well, this concept of love isn’t just for great football teams – it’s just as applicable to you in your business, career or life for that matter.

In 1972 writer and philosopher Milton Mayeroff wrote “Love is the selfless promotion of the growth of the other.”

In his book ‘Love Is The Killer App‘ former Yahoo! Chief Solutions Officer Tim Sanders discusses how in today’s world ‘love’ can be the point of difference in your business or organisation.

He adds his own definition of love in the context of business as “The act of intelligently and sensibly sharing your intangibles with your business partners”

Tim describes the intangibles as knowledge, network and compassion.

Knowledge

This  is what you have learned and what you continue to you learn through your experience, self education and discovery.

Knowledge represents everything which you have picked up on the job, all you have taught yourself through reading books, magazines or articles, and it includes everything you’ve been exposed to training courses you have attended.

Today knowledge is everywhere around us and accessible at the click of a button. You can download  a book or audio programme in seconds or even watch presentations on YouTube on your smartphone.

Instead of just thinking ‘value add’, think ‘knowledge add’ – “Ask what information, ideas or knowledge can I share with my network to help them solve their problems and become even better?”

Network

This is your entire web of relationships. Everyone in your address book is a potential partner for you or for other people you will meet. There is space for everyone in this ever expanding business universe.

Note we are talking about relationships here and not just connections – there is a difference.

How many people are you connected to on Linkedin for example? Of those how many do you actually invest in anytime with? How many have you followed up and conversations with?

Relationships start when someone becomes more than a number in your phonebook, a name on a friend list or number on a connection infographic.

Knowledge is your power source but relationships are your nerve centre. You get value from your knowledge but it only comes alive when you share it with your network.

Compassion

This is your unique ability to reach out with warmth, empathy and love to another person. Knowledge and relationships take time but compassion is a human quality which we can all share now.

We can reach out to colleagues, friends and associates to offer support, words of encouragement or even a shoulder to cry on. You can’t buy that on the App Store.

In this high tech world we live in, there is nothing that can replace true human compassion. There will always be tough times to come in our lives and we need to be surrounded by good people to ensure that we emerge victorious.

Unknown

Love can be a powerful tool in developing your business, enhancing your and improving your life.

Is it just about love? No, of course winning and achieving are important but that’s a by -product not the end game.

It’s about way more than that.

Focusing your energy less on the prize and more on the growth of others  – business associates, employees or family members is the key to improving performance and achieving extraordinary results.

Ask yourself. do you  show love in your business, to your team or with your business partners?

Are you sharing your intangibles and helping others grow ?

Do you see the ‘We” or is it all about the “Me” ?

Wake Up, It’s Beautiful A Morning!

14th January 2015 by VParmar Leave a Comment

not a morning

Not a morning person?

If the sound of the morning alarm clock fills you with dread, then maybe it is because you’re missing an simple yet power ingredient….and it’s not a cup of coffee.

If you’ve read my previous blogs, you’ll know that I am part of the 5am Club.

It’s a ritual that I implemented in my life 6 months or so ago and it’s made a huge difference in my results.

Related : 5 AM Club.

When I share this practice with people, I usually get the following reaction “What? You get up at 5am? Everyday? I could never do that”

The truth is, the first time I was told about the 5am club I thought the same. “Are you crazy???” I thought to myself.

In fact, I really wasn’t that much of morning person. Yes I got up early but that was because I had to, if I had my way I would have stayed in bed all day.

That was until something shifted in me. I discovered what was missing and started to pay more attention to it.

Check out this video from Steve Harvey where he explains what that missing ingredient is and why some people are just not morning people.
